Generally, the safest and cleanest way to remove ear wax from moderately blocked ears is the microsuction method. First, we gently insert a fine probe attached to a vacuum pump. Then the probe suctions the excess wax out of the ear canal.

This is safer, gentler and more effective technology than the old “syringing” method.
During water irrigation, we use body-temperature (37°C) water to flush debris out of the ear canal at a low pressure.
As a result, it’s ideal for removing larger quantities of ear wax.

Zoya graduated from Aston University in 2023 with First Class Honours in audiology. She also brings three years of clinical experience to the practice. In addition, she trained in endoscopic microsuction under our clinical specialists, so she is experienced in complex microsuction procedures.

Zoya is proficient across all areas of an independent hearing practice. In particular, her calm and unhurried manner puts our patients at ease, especially those who feel nervous about their first appointment. She is also experienced in fitting and dispensing hearing aids from the world’s leading manufacturers.

Our Clinical Team and Home Visits

Our clinical team consists entirely of HCPC-registered hearing aid dispensers, each with at least 500 microsuction procedures behind them. As a result, they are very skilled and highly experienced in microsuction. Endoscopic microsuction also lets us remove wax from the eardrum effectively, although this procedure needs a high level of experience and training.

We also provide a mobile home visit service for patients with mobility issues in the community. In fact, it is essentially the same procedure you would receive in any of our clinics. We offer same-day ear wax removal and microsuction at Birmingham Hearing Care, 310 Haunch Lane, Kings Heath, Birmingham B13 0QS. You also don’t need a GP referral, so just book online or call 0121 369 0780. In addition, we offer home visits across Birmingham for patients with mobility issues.

Ear wax removal costs £50 for one ear or £70 for both ears. This price also includes the examination, the procedure and aftercare. However, if we find no ear wax, we only charge a £20 consultation fee.

Microsuction is the gold standard, because we remove the wax under direct endoscopic vision with gentle suction and no water. However, we sometimes use ear irrigation or manual instruments instead if there are contraindications to microsuction. For example, this can happen when excessive drops have made ear wax slide onto the eardrum. Similarly, keratosis or dead skin may need manual instruments.

One to two days of drops can help soften ear wax, so the procedure feels more comfortable. However, please don’t overuse drops, since too many can sometimes make the procedure more difficult.

Ear wax removal is an unregulated industry, so a practitioner with suitable expertise should always carry it out. In our view, that means someone who has safely completed at least 100 procedures.
