If you can, use 2–3 drops of olive oil in the affected ear once or twice daily for 3–5 days before your appointment, as NHS guidance recommends. If you need to be seen sooner we can still see you the same day — microsuction does not require softening in every case, and your clinician will advise at your assessment whether drops and a free follow-up would give a better result.

Please be aware that a perforation, ear surgery, or grommets in the last 90 days will not be suitable for microsuction. If however you have had the above procedures and it is over 90 days you can be assessed by us on a individual basis. We decide on a case by case basis after a consultation if it is suitable or safe for us to perform the procedure.
